Showers seriously damaged potato, carrot and table beet harvest in Rovenska region
Most part of Ukraine suffers from drought and heat; at the same time, there are too many rainfalls in some regions of the country. NTN informs, rainfalls seriously injured potato, carrot and table beet harvest in Rovenska region.
""Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" specialists inform, Rovenska region occupies the fourth place in Ukraine as the supplier of potato shipments to the other regions of the country. In average 900,000 tons of potato are annually grown here, according to the data of the official statistics. Rovenska region has the third place, if carrot supply is evaluated (yielding to Volynska and Cherkaska regions); this region occupies the seventh place as table beet producer.
Professional growers consider the production of bulb and root crops to be a profitable business. Root crops are also an original currency for the population; local inhabitants exchange them for the products, which are not grown or manufactured in Rovenska region.
According to the forecasts of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" analysts, potato harvest will be almost the same this season as in 2006 despite of the extended cultivation areas of this crop.
