Cabbage is five-fold expensive comparing to 2006 in Kyiv

Today white cabbage is sold for more than $0.6/kg on Kyiv wholesale market; and, you would hardly find the price for this vegetable lower than $0.5/kg in the other regions. At the same period of time past year cabbage cost $ 0.14/kg; the producers sold it for $0.08/kg in some regions.

Such a rapid price jump happened despite of the fact that cabbage cultivation areas have been extended; but, it is a result of the negative weather conditions, which dramatically deteriorate white cabbage yield.

""Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" has already updated the forecasted cabbage harvest downwards; though initially cabbage harvest was expected to increase 8-10% comparing to the previous year. However, if we talk about medium cabbage varieties, in this case the yield decline will be even more significant. Simultaneously, the sellers expect the prices to further grow, so that the prices are keeping high positions.

The more detailed picture of cabbage production will be observed in September when the farms will actively harvest cabbage. The forecast of cabbage production and prices in 2008 will be presented during the fourth international conference "Fruits&Vegetables of Ukraine 2007"
