Ukraine to sustain ban on poultry imports from US - Agrarian Ministry official

Speaking about situation in poultry breeding industry, Ukraine's Deputy State Secretary for the Ministry of Agrarian Policy Yuri Melnyk has said that "growth tendencies in chicken meat production are kept on."

Having noted stabilisation in development of domestic companies that made considerable investments into chicken meat production, Mr. Melnyk made a special emphasis on the fact that since the start of the ban for US poultry imports our producers had not only completely satisfied domestic demand, but achieved a considerable reduction of meat selling prices. While in July last year disbursing price for broiler carcasses had been UAH 11 (US$ 2.06) per kilogramme, in July this year it was already UAH 6.8 (US$ 1.28) per kilogramme.

"The only thing we should avoid is to legalise chicken meet imports from USA, though there are some wishes about this [legalisation], including those in the form of developed normative acts. These are not the Ministry's wishes," Melnyk noted.
