Most Ukrainian producers plan storage cabbage this year

CIS produce business periodical, "Agrooglyad: Fruits and Vegetables" weekly informs, this year the most part of professional producers of late cabbage varieties plan to load this product to storages in Ukraine. To the opinion of the journal analysts, there will be a record percent of those who are willing to storage cabbage this season. One main reason makes the farmers storage cabbage - this is information about relatively low yield of cabbage in the current season and the whole decline of cabbage harvest. So the farmers plan to get even higher price for this product in winter-spring period.

The prices for cabbage are going down in Ukraine at the present moment. Since the previous week the average price for cabbage declined on $0.04/kg. The increasing volumes of cabbage supplies on market predetermine the price decline. Nevertheless, the wholesale price for cabbage is 2.5-3 times as high in Ukraine now than at the same period of time past year. Also, the prices for cabbage are 70-90% higher than in Russia and almost 2 times as high than in Poland. So we see the opportunities to supply cabbage from Poland and Russia to Ukrainian market. Also, the similar situation is formed on potato, carrot and table beet market.

If we consider the fact that the producers are likely to load maximum volumes of cabbage to storages, cabbage prices will possibly start increasing in the period of the active loading of cabbage to storages - the budget organizations and wholesale companies traditionally purchase cabbage at the same period of time.
