Russia: tomato prices zoomed up

Market players inform the specialists of CIS produce business periodical, "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly, that according to the results of the recent week the prices for greenhouse tomatoes have significantly increased. The representatives of the greenhouse complexes explain this circumstance by the slowed down ripening of tomatoes and, as a result, the reduced harvests in the farms in view of the deteriorated weather. The other important factor to support the price growth for greenhouse products is an earlier finished season of field tomato sales this year. Most market players primarily inform about shortage of the supplied quality tomato despite of the imported products entering the markets. Nevertheless, the prices are increasing less intensively in those areas where the supplies of Polish, Ukrainian, Chinese, Uzbekistani and Dutch tomatoes are recorded. The companies set the prices for the products of Ukrainian and Polish origin within the limits $1.18- 1.5/kg, for tomatoes of Chinese and Uzbekistani origin - $0.78-0.86/kg, and for Dutch tomatoes - $1.89-1.97/kg. The greenhouse complex specialists declared the general price range for the national products - $1.06-1.97/kg; one week ago the price for greenhouse tomato did not exceed $1.37/kg.

You will find out the details of Russian tomato market perspectives from the leading experts of the industry during the second international conference "Fruits&Vegetable Business of Russia 2007" to be held October 23rd-25th 2007 on the territory of "Expocenter" in Moscow.
