Ukraine: total grain sales 44pc up from last year
According to State Statistics Committee, as of September 1, 2002 grain sales in Ukraine since the beginning of the year via all sales channels constituted 7.957 million tonnes, a 44 percent increase compared to the same period a year before. Sales of wheat, rye and barley rose 63, 72 and 13 percent correspondingly.
Sales of sunflower seeds decreased from 248,600 tonnes last year to 122,500 tonnes.
Sales of livestock commodities have risen. Cattle was sold in the amount of 267,500 tonnes (107 percent of the amount sold through Jan-Aug 2001), pigs - 83,900 tonnes (133 percent), poultry - 103,300 tonnes (202 percent). The number of eggs sold rose 37 percent on a year.
Amounts of milk and dairy products sold have been practically unchanged.
Sugar has been sold in the amount of 170,386 tonnes - 16 percent more than over the same period in 2001.
