Ukraine: agrarian ministry cut its sunflower crop forecast
Agriculture Minister Serhiy Ryzhuk has informed today the ministry cut its 2002 sunflower seeds crop forecast down to 2.6-2.7 million tonnes from 3-3.2 million tonnes it forecasted earlier this month.
In early September the ministry increased its previous forecast (2.8 million tonnes) by 14 percent to 3-3.2 million tonnes, stepping from encouraging start of sunflower harvest.
However, now it has had to retreat back due to worsened weather conditions and more frequent reports of plant diseases, such as white and grey rot, Ryzhuk said.
