Portuguese retail chain plans entering Ukrainian market

The second largest Portuguese retail chain Jeronimo Martins plans to extend its Polish division Biedronka in Romania and Ukraine, Alessandro Suarez des Santush, the Chief of the company, said in his interview to Correspondent.

"We have a lot to do in Poland, but first we are studying the possibility to extend Biedronka brand in Romania and finally in Ukraine", he told to the journalists.

The chain representative earlier informed about EUR 500 mln. to be invested to Poland in 2007-2009.

Jerоnimo Martins was founded in the seventies previous century. Initially it was a small-sized retailer, which soon organized a powerful group, the second largest in Portugal. Now this group is the leader of Cash & Carry operations in the country.

According to earlier information, Belgian "Librecht and Wood" and its subsidiary company "United Developers - Poland" are studying the possibility to invest into the construction of the logistics center, hypermarket and office center in Ukraine.
