Onion prices are 15-20% higher this season in Russia than in 2006
According to information provided by the wholesale price monitoring specialists of CIS produce business periodical "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly, onion prices are 15-20% higher this year in Russia than in 2006.
The average purchase price for quality onion is $0.4/kg at the present moment in Moscow and $0.25/kg in Warsaw. To the experts' opinion, the prices for onion in Russia will start increasing as soon as in November, when the supply of the products of Russian origin will start declining on market.
Thanks to the higher prices for onion, observed in Russia this year, onion imports have already started in Ukraine. Past season the massive onion exports from Ukraine to Russia started only in December-January. However, the volumes of onion exports are relatively small.
