Argentina becomes one of the largest exporters of garlic in the world
During the first half of this year Argentina has exported 80,500 tons of garlic for the total sum worth $ 82 mln. These data are 31% as high comparing to the same period of time past year. The main volumes of the products are exported to Argentina to Brazil; however, large importers of Argentinean garlic are also France, USA, Spain, Italy and other countries. The specialists consider the increased consumption of garlic in the world to be one of the reasons for garlic production and exports to increase in Argentina.
The world largest suppliers of garlic are China, Argentina, Spain, France and Mexico. Around 80% of the global garlic supplies in value terms and almost 90% in physical terms are allocated to these countries. The annual garlic harvest reaches 120,000 tons in Argentina. The main production regions are Mendoza and San Juan provinces, which grow almost 95% of garlic in the country.
