Russia: prices for hazelnut started declining

The monitoring of Russian hazelnut market by the analysts of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly proves that the prices for this nut on Russian market have stabilized and even started to decline during the previous week. The specialists say, the main reason was the increased supplies of cheaper Azerbaijani and Georgian hazelnut on the market of Russian Federation.

We'd like to remind that Turkey is the main supplier of hazelnut on Russian market; however, hazelnut production has started to actively develop in Georgia and Azerbaijan since recently. There are plants for post harvest handling, roasting and packing of hazelnut in these countries; the enterprises are certified according to the international standards of quality assurance. The interest to hazelnut production and also to the growing of walnut, almond and other nuts is obvious in Ukraine too - commercial cultivation areas have started to appear in our country.

Seeing the increased interest of Ukrainian producers to nuts production, "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" decided to conduct the first international forum "Perspective trends of fruit & vegetable business 2008: commercial nuts orchards" to be held on the 31st of January 2008 in Kyiv in the framework of "Interagro" exhibition. The following topics are planned to be discussed during this forum:

- which types of nuts may be successfully produced in Ukraine

- regions of Ukraine with the largest potential of nuts production

- cost of nuts orchard establishment and estimation of the investment profitability

- sales channels for nuts: what is the capacity of Ukrainian market?

- nuts production technology - from production to processing

- where to buy and how to choose nuts seedlings.

Application form for participation in the forum is here.
