Apple harvest in Ukraine in 2007 equaled to apple harvest in Poland - "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits"
General Statistics Department of Poland (GUS) informed "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly, by this moment a little more than 1 mln. tons of apples have been harvested in the country. This amount is 55% as less than in 2006 when apple harvest amounted to 2.3 mln. tons. At the same time, to the opinion of farmers and traders, the actual apple production in Poland in 2007 won't decline lower than 1.2-1.3 mln. tons, or 45% as less than in 2006.
At the same time, according to the estimations of the analysts of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits", apple harvest in Ukraine increased 7-10% comparing to 2006. Initially we expected the harvest to increase 30-35%. According to Andriy Yarmak, the head of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" project, the official estimations of apple harvest in Ukraine are seriously underestimated. "According to the data of official statistics, in 2006 Ukraine harvested only around 536,000 tons of apples. Judging from the volumes of the produced apple concentrate and puree, these data have also been somewhat underestimated - it seems like the harvest was almost fully used for processing. That's why the real production volume was significantly higher", the expert believes. This year, according to estimations of the analysts of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits", apple harvest was on the same level in Ukraine and in Poland.
