Ukraine increased exports of canned cucumbers fourfold

According to the data provided by the analysts of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly, during first 9 months of 2007 Ukrainian companies have sharply increased the exports of canned cucumbers. If compared with the first 9 months of 2006, the exports of canned cucumbers from Ukraine have increased almost fourfold; in September 2007 the exported volume beat the previous record of monthly export - it has increased 80%.

Traditionally, Russia remained the main exporting sales market for the canneries of Ukraine - almost 80% of the total supplies in 2007 were directed to Russia. Rather significant volumes of canned cucumbers were exported to Kazakhstan, Belarus, Poland and Estonia. The countries-importers of canned cucumbers of Ukrainian origin were Israel, Germany, USA and Moldova.

According to Andriy Yarmak, the head of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" project, the increased exports of canned cucumbers from Ukraine are primarily predetermined by the increased production of canned products in 2006 and the consequent dramatic price decline which was observed in 2007. The other factor which influenced the increased exports of canned fruits & vegetables from Ukraine was the price growth for cucumbers in India and Vietnam. These countries also actively exported canned products on Russian market.
