Acreage of film greenhouses of Ukraine reaches 6-8,000 ha - the expert

During the fourth international conference "Fruits and Vegetables of Ukraine 2007. Meeting New Leader" Sharon Morag, the Chief of the representative office of Israeli company "Netafim" in Ukraine presented the opinion that the total acreage of film greenhouses in Ukraine reaches 6-8,000 ha. This fact has a significant impact on the fruit and vegetable market of the country.

According to the data provided by the analysts of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits", the official statistics estimates that greenhouse vegetables occupy 2,700 ha of acreage in Ukraine. However, the statistics mainly counts the glass and film greenhouses managed by large producers. The experts estimate the acreage of foundation glass greenhouses to occupy from 600 ha to 1000 ha. To the opinion of Sharon Morag, the most advanced greenhouses harvest up to 500 tons of tomatoes per each hectare in season.
