Ukraine: carrot prices are 3.5 times as high than past year

According to the estimations done by the analysts of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly, carrot prices continue to dynamically increase in Ukraine; the price level has already increased 3.5 times the past year data. As of today, the ordinary unwashed carrot is sold for $0.6-0.76/kg on the wholesale markets in large cities of Central Ukraine.

To compare: the prices for the same quality carrot amount to around $0.36/kg in the capital of Russia. That's why a quite good opportunity of carrot imports to Ukraine is about to appear right now, because the supplies of Russian carrot are not liable to import tariff rates. It is interesting to point out that the prices for carrot in Poland are almost equal to the prices in Russia; however, Polish carrot has higher quality characteristics.

At the same time, the experts of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" say, the legal imports of carrot from Poland are not quite feasible in view of the present-day prices for this crop in Ukraine. The thing is, the official tariff rate for carrot in Ukraine is around $0.3/kg. Also, additionally to tariff rate, the importer will need to pay 20% VAT and transportation expenses to deliver products to Ukraine. At the same time, the illegal carrot supplies from Poland to Ukraine are rigidly repressed now, according to the trade sources. That's why the specialists forecast the prices for carrot to increase up to the level sufficient for the suppliers to legally import carrot from Poland to Ukraine.
