Strike of custom officers in Poland was the reason for the reduced apple supplies in Ukraine
The strike of Polish custom officers led to the reduced supplies of imported apple on the market of Ukraine, the specialists of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly inform. There have been almost no supplies of Polish products during four days already.
On the 29th of January the employees of the crossing points on the borders of Ukraine, Russia and Belarus informed about the end of the strike; nevertheless, the normal working regime will be restored not earlier than in 2-3 days. Some mass media inform, the enormous line of trucks has been stretched to dozens of kilometers on the eastern border of Poland.
According to "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" data, the breakdowns in apple supplies to Ukrainian market have not been reflected on the product price yet. Despite of the reduced stocks of imported products, Ukrainian sellers trade products in the previously set price range - they fear for the interest of the buyers to decrease in case of the price growth.
As of today, the inner market is saturated with apples of national origin. Nevertheless, the price increase for apples is possible soon in Ukraine. In addition to the traditionally decreased supplies of apples from the national farms, the other possible factor of the price increase may be more severe competition for Polish apple between Ukraine and Russia. Russia can lift the embargo for plant product supplies from Poland in the coming days.
