Russia may enter WTO on the 1st of January 2009

Russia may join WTO on the 1st of January 2009, Andrey Kushnirenko, Deputy Director of Trade Negotiations Department, Ministry of Economic Development, informed.

"We hope to finish the negotiations about the entrance to WTO by May; taking into account the organizational, juridical and technical problems, our obligations will enter in force approximately on the 1st of January 2009", he said.

"I mention the round date, so, if the negotiations are over in May, the entrance to WTO may take place January the 1st 2009", the representative of the Ministry told; he specified that there were three or four questions left unsolved during the negotiations. In particular, the support of agriculture should be agreed on the multilateral level, and the negotiations with Saudi Arabia should be finished, "Vesti" informs.
