Ukrainian farmers concerned by possible nitrogen and phosphorus deficiency in crops - agriculture minister

Ukrainian farmers have planted winter crops on 8.5 million hectares. Agriculture Minister Serhiy Ryzhuk was cited as saying November 6 that he considered state of the plantings at the moment as good. However, difficult weather conditions are causing some concerns, he said. In particular, farmers have been worried by large amount of precipitations, fallen in a recent period, most of which was of a washaway character, which can cause nitrogen and phosphorus deficiency in the crops.

He said a pressing need for the state at the moment was to provide financial aid to farmers so they be able to purchase mineral fertilisers, needed for spring dressing.
