Ukrainian orchardists worry about the possible frosts late April

The orchard farms of Ukraine care much about the perspectives of the fruit harvest this year. They worry because of the forecasts of the temperature drop late April - early May in Ukraine. Nevertheless, according to "Fruit-Inform" data, the weather observers do not forecast the temperature lower than 0°C, which is totally safe for the orchards. The weather service forecasts more serious price decrease of -1°C down to -4°C only in some northern regions of the country.

To the opinion of "Fruit-Inform" specialists, the absence of warmth is a more serious threat for the fruit harvest in many regions of the country. As a consequence, there are not enough bees for the normal pollination of the trees, so there is a threat of barren flowers.

We have already informed that the absolute majority of the trees in the fruit orchards successfully stood the winter. Also, many crops started to bloom earlier, and the blooming is more intensive now than in the previous year.

The detailed forecast of the production and prices for fruits and vegetables in Ukraine 2008 will be published by "Fruit-Inform" project late May. The annotated version of the survey will be provided gratis for "Fruit-Inform" subscribers. The full version with the detailed information about each crop will be available for UAH 2,000 for the subscribers and UAH 2,500 for non-subscribers of the journal. Please order the survey per tel: +38-0562-32-07-95.
