Apple imports will exceed 1 mln. tons in 2008 for the first time in Russia
The analysts of CIS fruit & vegetable business weekly "Fruit-Inform" forecast, the volumes of the apple imports to Russia will continue increasing in 2008 and will exceed 1 mln. tons for the first time in the history.
This information is released in "Forecast of the production and prices for fruits and vegetables in Russian Federation in 2008" which is developed now by the journal analysts. The annotated version of the forecast will be published in the last May issue of "Fruit-Inform" weekly; the full version is available to everybody interested for RUR 14,200 (RUR 11,800 for the subscribers of the journal).
The total forecasted volume of the apple imports in 2008 amounts to 1.1-1.2 mln. tons. However, the final volume will depend on the apple harvest in Poland and China, which are the key suppliers of this fruit to Russia; the imports will also depend on the inner apple production and the price levels for bananas and citrus fruits. However, Polish apple was predominantly supplied via Lithuania in 2006 and 2007; the official statistics recognized this country as the largest apple supplier to Russia. The other largest countries - suppliers are Azerbaijan, Argentina, Holland, Moldova, Germany, Belgium, Ukraine, Serbia and Chili.
