Russia: canneries of Kabardino-Balkaria cultivate vegetables for processing by themselves
During 8 months of the current year, the canneries of Kabardino-Balkaria produced nearly 90 mln of standard cans (msc) of canned fruits and vegetables that is considerably higher of the volume compared to the same period in 2007, sk-news.ru reported.
This season, the processing enterprises sowed vegetables at 3.000 ha on their own, up 1.3 times compared to the last year and up over twice than in 2006. At that, they have higher yield of agricultural crops than small producers due to high farming standards. “Interruptions with shipments of quality raw material have stopped, and the canneries are able to work at full capacity,”- Tembulat Erkenov, the head of the department, reported. Currently, 19 canneries of Kabardino-Balkaria are processing cucumbers, tomatoes, paprika, cabbage, squashes. The leader is a modern enterprise Agro-invest, cultivating vegetables using drip irrigation. The output of canned products here has already exceeded 9 msc, or 130% compared to the same period last year. Modernization of production at Nalchik cannery allowed increasing production of canned cucumbers to 3 msc, or up 3.5 times compared to 2007. This year, two Italian lines on green peas and canned vegetables production were established at the daughter enterprise of JSC Terekalmaz – Konservprom, the capacity of the last line totals 6 msc per year. The enterprise works only the second year, but it produced almost 4 msc of the canned cucumbers this year. Erkenov also reported that due to putting into operation of new capacities and technologies, Kabardino-Balkaria produces nearly 30% of competitive canned vegetables in total production volume of the South Federal District.
