Ukraine will strengthen control over food imports into free economic zones

Ukraine's government will strengthen control over imports of some food products - in particular meet and diary products - onto territories of free economic zones, Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister for Agriculture told a sitting of the Cabinet of Ministers Wednesday.

He reminded that preferable procedure of imports of some foodstuffs into the free economic zones and zones of free trade had been cancelled in late 2002. However, some supplies have continued to avoid full taxation, he said.

According to government, the state budget was short of 300 million hryvnias in 2002 ($55.55 million) because of reduced taxation of the products, imported to these zones.
