Ukraine: no price increase for cabbage expected

The cabbage market will not see rise in prices till the end of the season, reported Tatiana Getman, editor-in-chief of “Agrooglyad: vegetables and fruits” during the Fifth International conference “Vegetables and fruits of Ukraine – 2008” in Kiev.

According to Getman, price stability is determined by increase of cabbage production by 20%. At the moment, prices decreased by 50-60% compared to the last year.

Exports of cabbage are impossible, because Russia is the main cabbage purchaser. However, overproduction of cabbage is observed on the Russian market. Thus, it is expected that prices would remain low till the end of the season.

According to the forecasts of Getman, cabbage production will sharply reduce.
