World tomato production to reach record indices

World production of tomatoes for processing in 2008/09 MY may not only reach the record index of 2004/05 MY - 35 mln tonnes, but also to exceed this production level.

As German Central Department on markets and prices (ZMP) reported, in particularly, stocks of finished commodity in the northern hemisphere were almost exhausted at the beginning of the processing season. Besides, according to data of International Committee on tomato processing (WPTC), at the moment, demand on tomato processing products increases by almost 1 mln tonnes of raw material early.

The requirements on raw material in tomato processing industry in the countries of EU is estimated at the level of 8.5 mln tonnes, that is down, compared to the indices of the last season.
