Ukraine: increase of tomato imports

According to official statistics, in December of the last year, imports of fresh tomatoes to Ukraine totaled 4.200 tonnes that is up 3.3 times, compared to the index of 2007 - 1.300 tonnes. In December, Turkey remained the main supplier of tomatoes - 55 % of total supply volume fell to Turkish suppliers. At that, the average imports price for tomatoes imported from Turkey reached the level of 526 USD per tonne.

During 2008, 42.500 tonnes of fresh tomatoes were imported to Ukraine that is up 13 times, compared to the same index of 2007. During the reporting year, the main suppliers of this produce were Turkey (63 %), Spain (17 %), Netherlands (6 %) and Poland (6 %).
