Kazakhstan: farm production in January-April rose 4.8 percent

According to Kazakhstan's Agency for Statistics, the volume of gross agricultural output in January-April 2003 increased 4.8 percent compared with corresponding period of 2002, and reached 69.2 billion tenges ($1 = 151.4 tenges).

As of the start of May the head of cattle in the country increased 6.7 percent - to 5.423 million, sheep and goats - 7.6 percent (to 14.992 million), pigs - 11.7 percent (to 1.537 million), horses - 4.2 percent (to 1.139 million), poultry - 12.4 percent (to 24.131 million).

In comparison with January-April 2002, production of meat in the first four months of 2003 increased 3.8 percent - to 319,100 tonnes, eggs - 8 percent (to 682.2 million), milk - 6.5 percent (to 1.013 million tonnes).
