Verkhovna Rada discusses raw sugar import question
According to Agency of Industrial News, the question about imports to Ukraine of cane-origin raw sugar is put on the agenda of Verkhovna Rada (Parliament of Ukraine) for May 16.
There have been three bills concerning the issue of raw sugar imports, submitted to Parliament since the beginning of the year. One of them stipulates introduction of tariff quota for imports of raw sugar in the amount of 400,000 tonnes with 1 percent import duty, but no less than 7 euros per tonne since May 1 till September 1, 2003. Another one suggests introducing of 120,000-tonne duty for Cuban raw sugar, with 1 percent import duty, but no less than 5 euros per tonne. This was to be in effect since April 1 till August 15 2003. The third variant suggested a 280-tonne quota with 1 percent duty, but no less than 6 euros per tonne since May 15 till September 1 this year.
