Economy ministry will insist on elimination of export duty for sunseeds
Ukraine's Ministry of Economy and for the Issues of European Integration will insist on elimination of currently effective export duty for sunflower seeds, the Minister Valery Khoroshkivsky has told today the participants of the round-table meeting "Agro-Industrial Complex and the World Trade Organisation".
There is currently a 17 percent export duty for of sunflower seeds, effective in Ukraine.
He said the issue of sunflower seeds export should have been resolved before Ukraine's accession to WTO.
He also said that the issues of the so-called "difficult sub-industries", e.g. sugar one, which might be adversely affected by Ukraine's accession to WTO, should be approached in a similar way.
He said that, to his personal opinion, land in Ukraine ought to become an object of purchase and sale. He believes this process will enable to avoid "shadow" privatisation and "semi-privatisation" of land, and agricultural producers will acquire current assets for development of their business.
On the whole, Ukraine's agroindustrial complex is ready to accession to WTO, Mr. Khoroshkivsky thinks.
