Ukraine's farmers applying more mineral fertilisers and less organic ones than last year

According to Ukraine's State Statistics Committee, as of May 30, 2003 Ukrainian farmers applied 153,680 tonnes of mineral fertilisers on 2.673 million hectares of spring crops (30.4 percent of total area), which makes the rate of 1.75 tonne per hectare. In same period last year the amount of mineral fertilisers applied on the area of 2.241 million hectares was by 19,870 tonnes less (the rate was 1.41 tonne per hectare).

Organic fertilisers have been applied on 100,700 hectares in the amount of 374,100 tonnes, which is half the amount of last year. The amount applied per 1 hectare now has been 40 kilograms, against 70 kilograms the year before.
