Private port is under construction in Nikolaev

A private port, specialising on transhipment of bulk grain, is being build on the territory of Chernomorsky Shipbuilding Yard (Nikolaev, South Ukraine) within the special regime economic zone "Nikolaev".

The investment project worth $23 million has been initiated by joint venture "Nibulon" (Ukraine-Hungary) - one of the largest grain traders, exporters and producers of agricultural products in Ukraine.

The basis of the project is the uncompleted construction project, entitled "Reconstruction of Vostochnaya Naberezhnaya (Eastern Embankment)", that the company acquired from the shipbuilding yard in 2002. Project capacity of grain complex is 2 million tonnes annually. The first turn (worth about $15 million) includes a 1.3 million tonne reloading terminal, rail and automobile infrastructure and control tower.

However, functioning of the enterprise as a private port is hampered by insufficiently elaborated legal base, regulating work of non-state marine transshipment complexes in Ukraine, and also by claims of the shipbuilding yard for harbour area and the access tracks, passing through its territory.
