Auction for sales of raw sugar import quota will be held Aug. 20

The auction for sales of the quotas for import of cane origin raw sugar to Ukraine in the amount of 360,000 tonnes (36 lots) in the period till September 1 this year will be held on August 20, Interfax-Ukraine news agency informed.

The auction participants are to make a deposit in the amount not lower than hryvnia equivalent of the minimal price for the lot, which is 590,000 euros for 10,000 tonnes of raw sugar to be imported. The deadline for applications is August 18, the deadline for making the deposit is August 19.

On July 15 the state sold the first quota for import of 200,000 tonnes of raw sugar at an auction for the total sum of 15.3 million euros. The purchasing prices for a lot ranged between 752,500 to 790,000 euros.

On May 22 this year Verkhovna Rada enacted quotas for imports of cane-origin raw sugar to Ukraine in the amount of 200,000 tonnes with the rate of import duty 60 euros per tonne till September 15, 2003, and in the amount of 360,000 tonnes with import duty equalling 1 percent of customs value, but no less than 6 euros per tonne till September 1, 2003.
