Prices for fruit and vegetable produce to have already increased by 81% comparatively with 2009
Fruit and vegetable index of “Fruit-Inform” shows that Ukrainian consumers currently pay averagely by 81% more for vegetables and fruits than during the same period in 2009. Growth of prices was mostly influenced by vegetables that increased 2.3 times in price comparatively with September 2009, while prices for fruits grew averagely by one third.
Growth of the index was mainly impacted by cucumbers and tomatoes that are averagely 3.2 and 3.0 times higher in price respectively. Also a significant influence was exerted by potatoes (2.4 times higher in price), onions (2.1 times), and watermelons (2.0 times). As for fruit categories, apples and lemons attract attention, as they averagely increased 1.5 times in price comparatively with the last year.
Carrots were the only category that decreased in price as compared with the previous year. Price for them is lower by 14%.
It should be noted that fruit and vegetable index of “Fruit-Inform” increased by 3% within the last week, so, in other words, consumers had to increase their expenses for vegetables and fruits by 3% within this period of time.
