Apple business of Russia, Ukraine and Moldova is meeting in Kiev on August 11, 2011
Three countries (Russia, Ukraine, Moldova) represent a business of about 2.3 million tonnes of fresh market apples and up to 2 million tonnes of industrial apples, and this is a unique opportunity to meet this business in one place! Russia is one of the key apple importers in the world with annual imports now reaching 1.2 million tonnes and valued at about US $500 million per annum. Ukraine is quickly turning from a large importer into a significant exporter (100,000 tonnes of exports and 150,000 tonnes of imports), and Moldova is already a relatively large net exporter (200,000 tonnes) of apples.
We also estimate that these countries plant up to 15-20,000 ha of new apple orchards every year, mainly using the modern technologies. There are companies, which manage 1,000-2,000 ha of modern orchards each! They also actively expend the CA and ULO storage capacities (70-100,000 tonnes per year), which are currently far from being insufficient. There is a huge need for all elements of modern growing, storing, sorting and packing technologies among growers and traders. Another thing, which makes this meeting unique, is the place where it is to be held, as the conference is going to take place at the largest fresh produce wholesale market of Eastern Europe (130 ha) which was opened in July 2011! Thus, besides having an opportunity to get important information from presentations and to meet with right people, you will also see how the trade is organized in Ukraine and will be able to talk to the traders directly at the market, as most of the largest companies are represented there.
To make it even more useful, we decided to complete the first ever fundamental apple market study for Russia and Ukraine just before this meeting (based on our daily market monitoring for the past eight years). Conclusions of the study will be presented at the conference, and the study itself includes detailed production, processing, foreign trade and price statistics for apple business of Russia and Ukraine as well as information on largest market players (including contact details) such as growers, processors, importers, traders, input and equipment suppliers, and others.
