Poland expects record-breaking wholesale prices for apples in spring of 2010

According to Fruit-Inform, notwithstanding passive demand for apples, Polish producers are full of optimism concerning prices for apples in the second half of the season.

Some of them expect a sharp increase of demand for apples from the side of Russia and Ukraine in January that may stabilize a situation with prices. Others tell of bad quality of apples that will result in bad storage ability of them. So, already in April-May, there will be a huge shortage of high-quality apples on Poland's market.

When telling of price prospects, Polish producers mostly fix wholesale prices at EUR 0.80-0.90/kg. In addition, wholesalers traditionally are less restrained, although they expect dynamic growth of prices for apples. If prices in Poland reach even EUR 0.70/kg, then, as to estimations of Fruit-Inform, wholesale prices for Polish apples in Ukraine and Russia will amount to EUR 0.92-1.01/kg and 1.09-1.19/kg respectively.

More detailed information about imports of apples and other fruits and vegetables to Ukraine will be available in course of presentation of “Arkadiya”, one of the leading importers of Ukraine, during the work of the seventh international conference ”Vegetables and Fruit of Ukraine-2010”.
