Consumption of citrus fruits keeps on decreasing in Ukraine for the third year in a row
As to estimations of Fruit-Inform, imports of citrus fruits to Ukraine will decrease by 3%. So, this is going to be the third year of imports of citrus fruits decreasing. In 2009, decrease of imports of citrus fruits amounted to 1%, and in 2008, it reached 6%. In that way, consumption volume of citrus fruits decreased by 10% within 3 years.
We may note that we expect decrease of imports of all main categories of citrus fruits (oranges, tangerines, lemons, and grapefruits) in 2010. The sharpest decrease (by 5-6%) is expected for imports of oranges and lemons. Imports of tangerines will drop insignificantly, and this category will keep on leading in import volumes of citrus fruits. It might be reminded that consumption volume of tangerines is stably higher than of oranges since 2009.
According to Andriy Yarmak, Head of Project Fruit-Inform, decrease in consumption of citrus fruits within the last 3 years is connected with devaluation of national currency.
More detailed information about prospects of imports of fruit and vegetable produce to Ukraine will be presented by Irina Noskova, manager on foreign economic activity of the company “Polly Group”, in course of work of the seventh international conference “Vegetables and Fruit of Ukraine-2010”.
