Fruit and vegetable produce increased in price by 5% in Russia within a week

Russian fruit and vegetable index of Fruit-Inform shows that cost of fruit and vegetable basket of a Russian consumer increased by 5% within the last week. In that way, a Russian consumer pays for fruits and vegetables more and more week-on-week. And if comparing with rather high level of prices for fruits and vegetables in the last year, fruit and vegetable produce is currently higher in price by 57% in the Russian Federation!

During the last week, all main categories of fruit and vegetable produce were growing in price: traditional vegetables, as well as glass-grown vegetables and fruits. The most sharpest rise of prices was registered for fruits, as it reached 10%. Glass-grown produce increased in price by 8% within a week, traditional vegetables – by 1%. We may also note that prices have not decreased for any category of fruit and vegetable basket.

Bananas had the sharpest growth of prices within a week – by 25% at once. Rise of prices for tangerines reached 15%, for glass-grown cucumbers – 13%. Prices for apples increased by 5%.

During the last years, imports of apples, glass-grown cucumbers and onions from Ukraine to Russia were steadily increasing. Currently, prices for fruit and vegetable produce in the Russian Federation are averagely 38% higher than in Ukraine. Moreover, apples are 2.3-fold higher in price, glass-grown tomatoes – 2-fold higher, carrots – 2.3-fold higher, potatoes – 72% higher, beets – 64% higher.
