«Thanks to Soviet Union for unique irrigation system», - expert states
Johan Boden and Carl Sturen, founders of Green Team company, explained a reason of deployment of their new business in Kakhovka during work of the seventh international conference “Vegetables and Fruit of Ukraine-2010”.
According to Johan Boden, Kakhovka is an epicenter of vegetable growing in Ukraine, as more than 50% of all areas under open-ground vegetables under drip irrigation are located in Kherson oblast, where Kakhovka was, is and remains a key element of annual growth. Amongst other advantages of the region, the expert mentioned also dry climate (average annual precipitation lower than 400 mm), ideal soil types for vegetable growing, and permanent availability of water for irrigation. Also, he noted that there are about 1 million ha irrigated in this oblast that makes this irrigation system unique. “Thanks to Soviet Union”, - the entrepreneur added.
Besides this, as to opinion of Mr. Boden, within 10 last years, volumes of vegetable production in Kakhovka region increased 8-fold that makes up 24% of all irrigated areas of the oblast. There are also a serious base of trustworthy farmer enterprises tending to development and central offices of major suppliers of PPP, drip irrigation systems, fertilizers etc. in Kakhovka that indicates particular specialization of this region.
