Rapid growth of prices for fruits and vegetables resumed in Russia

Russian fruit and vegetable index of Fruit-Inform Project shows that cost of fruit and vegetable basket of Russian consumers increased by 8% at once within the last week and fully compensated 4% decrease within a week earlier.

Traditional vegetables were the main reason of the basket's growth in cost within the last week, as they increased in price by 12% at once! Glass-grown vegetables also became more expensive – averagely by 8%. Fruit basket grew in price only by 2% within a week, notwithstanding increase of supplies in advance of New Year holidays.

Amongst vegetables, glass-grown cucumbers, cabbage, and potatoes had the most dynamic growth, as they increased in price averagely by 15%. We should also note lemons, as they sharply grew in price by 44% within a week, which was a result of increase in supplies of high-quality produce. At the same time, prices for other citrus categories had a decline tendency during the last week.

Already during the current week, Russia will face sharp surge of buying activity that may lead to dynamic growth of prices. This means that fruits and vegetables for New Year board will be recordly expensive for Russian consumers.
