Almost 4-time increase of seed potato imports in Ukraine

Outgoing season's record-breaking prices for food potatoes entailed sharp surge of seed potato sales in Ukraine.

As it had been informed before, many companies specializing in seed material supplies managed to sell almost all available volumes of produce already till New Year holidays. As a result, first signs of seed potato shortage began to appear in the market already in early February.

According to Fruit-Inform Project, as of April 1, 2011, Ukraine imported 270% more seed potatoes than during the same period of 2010. Moreover, prices for this produce increased almost 2 times.

As Fruit-Inform Project's survey shows, extension of areas under potatoes in Ukraine is expected at the level of both commercial producers and household farms.
