40% decrease of fruit and vegetable prices in Ukraine just over 2 weeks
Fruit-Inform Project's fruit and vegetable index shows that last week fruit and vegetable prices fell by 15.4% in Ukraine, after 25% reduction a week earlier. In such a way, just over 2 weeks fruit and vegetable prices fell by more than 40% and have been keeping on decreasing for the tenth week in a row.
“As we have forecasted, as of today, the prices for fruits and vegetables are already lower than last year and go on decreasing. Moreover, cardinal slump of prices is expected after the start of harvesting of late vegetables in September-November this year”, Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform Project, states. “In the nearest time we should expect a slight deceleration of the fruit and vegetable price reduction rates, although the price decrease trend will remain active in the market”, Mrs. Getman adds.
Last week the sharpest decrease of prices was registered for tomatoes and watermelons due to the start of mass harvesting of field-grown produce. In addition, borsch vegetables (onions, white cabbages, red beets and carrots) and potatoes significantly decreased in price too. Fruit prices fell the least as a result of slight increase of raspberry prices. However, this fact was compensated by reduction of the prices for watermelons and apples. Harvesting campaign of the latter is only starting in Ukraine now.
We would remind you that in two weeks the first in the CIS international conference “Apple Business of Ukraine, Russia and Moldova - 2011” will take place at Stolychnyi Wholesale Market (the largest wholesale market of Ukraine), Kiev, Ukraine. Their participation has been already confirmed by the largest apple producers from these countries. The program of the event is available here. Registration of the conference participants is in progress.
