Ukraine's white cabbage producers incurring losses
According to Fruit-Inform Project, white cabbage prices keep on decreasing in the Ukrainian market. Notwithstanding producers thinking there is no point in further price reduction due to growing and harvesting costs not being compensated, they have to keep on reducing prices to make sales more active. Nevertheless, as Fruit-Inform Project has already forecast in December 2010, this year white cabbage production is evident to exceed the maximum consumption level in Ukraine. Therefore, further price reduction does not lead to more active sales.
Unfortunately, we have to state that farmers and households may suffer serious losses as they again considered the government calls to expand areas under vegetables and grow them at household plots.
Furthermore, Fruit-Inform Project's analysts note that the situation in the market for late white cabbages may be even more difficult. More detailed information about such developments is available in the fundamental study “Fruit and Vegetable Market of Ukraine-2011: Results and Forecasts for the Next Season”.
Updated price forecast for white cabbages and other fruits and vegetables for the second half of the current season and the next season in Ukraine will be presented during the Eighth International Conference “Fruits & Vegetables of Ukraine - 2011. New Exporter”, November 30 – December 2, 2011.
As to fruit and vegetable price forecast for the second half of the season in the Russian Federation, it will be presented during the Fourth International Conference “Fruit & Vegetable Business of Russia – 2011”. The event will take place in conjunction with World Food Moscow, September 14, 2011. Registration of the conference participants is currently in active progress.
