Poland's berry production to decrease in 2011
According to the Polish official statistics (GSU), Poland's berry production will decrease to 487 thous. tonnes in 2011. This is considerably lower than last year and averagely in last 5 years. Such a production fall will be registered due to spring frosts which had negative impact especially on currant and gooseberry crops.
In particular, it is expected that strawberry production will decrease to 157 thous. tonnes, blackcurrant production – to 160 thous. tonnes, and gooseberry production – to 14 thous. tonnes. The only major berry crop with estimated growth of production are raspberries. As of today, Poland's raspberry production is forecast to reach 95 thous. tonnes that is not only higher than last year and averagely in last 5 years, but is a record-breaking production level over all history of Poland. Harvested volumes of other berry crops will slightly grow to 61 thous. tonnes.
