Potatoes and traditional vegetables to keep on decreasing in price in Ukraine
Recently Ukraine's mass media published amateurish experts' comments about prospects of the price growth for potatoes and traditional vegetables (onions, white cabbages, red beets, carrots) in the country. Such unprofessional statements aggravate the situation being already difficult in the Ukrainian fresh produce market in view of overproduction crisis and provoke producers and intermediaries to store potatoes and onions for re-sale in winter and spring.
Therefore Fruit-Inform Project's analysts again warn the fresh market players of such activities being rather risky (the first warnings were announced during the conference “Fruits and Vegetables of Ukraine – 2010). As of today, all potato and vegetable production forecasts published in the fundamental study “Fruit and Vegetable Market of Ukraine-2011: Results and Forecasts for the Next Season” are being corroborated. Moreover, production of potatoes and almost all traditional vegetables will be even higher than expected in April.
“We forecast that wholesale prices for all traditional vegetables and potatoes will be gradually decreasing in the nearest months with prospects of their growth in winter and spring being minimum”, Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform Project, says.
We would remind you that Fruit-Inform Project has already increased its potato production forecast for Ukraine, according to which the oversupply of potatoes in the Ukrainian market will amount to almost 1 mil. tonnes.
As to the Russian fresh produce market, more detailed information about its prospects of production, prices and imports will be presented specially for participants of the Fourth International Conference “Fruit & Vegetable Business of Russia – 2011”. The event will take place in conjunction with World Food Moscow, September 14, 2011. Official registration of the conference participants ends on September 8, 2011.
