White cabbages in Russia lower in price than in Ukraine
According to Fruit-Inform Project, a surplus of white cabbages continues to impact the situation in the markets of Russia and Ukraine. If real prices for white cabbages were fixed within EUR 0.04-0.07/kg in Ukraine, then Russian purchasers are ready to buy these vegetables at EUR 0.02/kg from domestic farmers in Russia's major producing regions. Some purchasers think that even this price level is too high against a background of abundant supply.
As harvesting of late white cabbages has not started yet, Russian farmers expect no positive changes in the market and often do not harvest their produce at all thinking that offered prices will not cover even harvesting costs.
More detailed information about the Russian market for white cabbages and other fruits and vegetables, its import and price prospects will be presented specially for participants of the the Fourth International Conference “Fruit & Vegetable Business of Russia – 2011” which will take place in conjunction with World Food Moscow, September 14, 2011.
