Warm autumn favors extension of the field-grown cucumber and tomato season in Ukraine
According to Fruit-Inform, field-grown cucumbers and tomatoes are keeping on being harvested in Ukraine thanks to warm weather. Usually the season ends in the first days of October when the first ground frosts are registered. However, this year the temperature is rather high in the majority of the Ukrainian regions. In addition, meteorologists do not forecast frosts in the second week of October too.
According to such a situation, tomato prices are 40% lower year-on-year in Ukraine. If there are no frosts, then the year-on-year difference of prices may exceed 100% in the second week of October. At the same time, cucumber prices are almost the same as in 2010 that is connected with reduction of areas under this crop.
