The value of Ukrainians' fruit and vegetable basket starts increasing
According to Fruit-Inform's fruit and vegetable index, the value of Ukrainians' fruit and vegetable basket increased by 8.3% last week, after six months of continuous decrease. The value increased exclusively thanks to the growth of the prices for seasonal vegetables (cucumbers and tomatoes), which was experienced this year later than usual. Moreover, cucumber and tomato consumption decreased sharply too against a background of 75% week-on-week increase in prices for them.
“Prices for traditional vegetables and potatoes suitable to storage kept on stagnating last week. The overall price level did not change, although the real sales were conducted only in the event of significant reduction of selling prices”, Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform, says. “The overall value of the fruit basket as well decreased last week thanks to the start of the new citrus season in the Northern Hemisphere countries”, the expert continues.
