70% of EU demand for fruits covered by Italy, France and Spain
Three countries (Italy, France and Spain) cover almost 70% of the EU demand for fresh fruits. This was said by Mr. Eduard Bloch, Senior Consultant of SIPPO (Switzerland), at the 8th International Conference “Fruits & Vegetables of Ukraine – 2011. New Exporter”. Mr. Bloch added that these countries also supply 55% of all fresh vegetables to the EU.
Tomato production accounts for the largest share (30%) in the EU total vegetable production. The share of apples (29%) is the largest one in the total fruit production and is followed by oranges with the share of 22%.
Mr. Bloch sees Ukraine's exports to the EU being prospective in cherries, plums and wild-grown berries. In addition, he mentioned asparagus and seedless melons among most promising categories of Ukrainian exports to Europe.
