2.6% increase in value of Ukrainians' fruit and vegetable basket
Fruit-Inform's fruit and vegetable index shows that the value of Ukrainians' fruit and vegetable basket increased by 2.6% last week, after almost no significant changes over the past 2 months. Nevertheless, fruit and vegetable prices are still 2.5-fold lower year-on-year in the country.
“A sharp increase in greenhouse tomato prices backed total growth of the basket's value; however, the consumption share of this produce category continues to be insignificant in Ukraine”, Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform, says. “At the same time, prices for the majority of fruits and vegetables keep on being stable”, the expert continues.
Last week, greenhouse cucumbers slightly decreased in price in Ukraine, while banana prices somewhat grew.
We would remind you that the fundamental Ukraine fruit and vegetable price forecast for the season 2012/13 will be presented at the Fourth International Conference “Potatoes and Vegetables of Ukraine – 2012”, Kiev, Ukraine, February 16-17, 2012.
