Portugal to halve Rocha pear production in 2012

According to WAPA (World Apple & Pear Association) data, this year Portuguese growers will halve their Rocha pear output. In such a way, production of this variety will amount to just 109,000 tonnes in the country that is 48% lower year-on-year and the lowest in the past 9 years.

We would remind you that the highest production of Portuguese Rocha pears was registered in 2011 (210,000 tonnes). Rocha variety should also be noted as the most popular one in Portugal with its share in annual pear production reaching 99%.
