Belgium reduces apple exports to Russia
According to Federal State Statistics Service of the Russian Federation, from July to November 2012, Belgium exported 2,800 tonnes of apples to Russia that was 37% lower year-on-year.
Belgium has been steadily decreasing its share in Russia's apple imports over the past decade due to higher imports from other countries. If in the season 2005/06 Belgium had been the fourth biggest apple exporter to the Russian Federation (with the share of 7%), then in the season 2011/12 this country ranked only fourteenth, and its share in Russia's total apple imports amounted just to 1.3%.
At the same time, tt should also be noted that Belgium's apple exports to Russia peak in winter, therefore this country still has a chance to raise export volumes in the current season.
